Why General Dentistry Is Essential
Preventive Care That Supports Total-Body Wellness
General dentistry is the cornerstone of lifelong oral health. It focuses on early detection, prevention, and long-term maintenance — all with the goal to avoid more invasive and expensive procedures in the future.
Regular dental visits not only protect your teeth and gums but also reduce your risk for systemic health conditions linked to oral bacteria, such as:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Respiratory infections
- Pregnancy complications
- Stroke
By scheduling regular checkups, you’re not just caring for your smile — you’re making a powerful investment in your overall well-being.
Benefits of General Dental Care:
- Catches minor problems before they become big ones
- Helps maintain strong teeth and gums at every age
- Supports fresh breath and a confident smile
- Saves time and money with proactive treatment
- Promotes better habits and home care routines
At Dental Arts of Nowata, we believe that prevention is the best form of treatment, and it starts with consistent general dentistry.
Build Healthy Habits at Home
Great dental health isn’t built in the dental chair alone — it continues with the choices you make every day. That’s why we emphasize education and personalized guidance to help you take better care of your teeth between visits.
Here are some key habits our team recommends:
- Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste
- Floss at least once a day to clean between the teeth
- Drink water throughout the day, especially after meals
- Eat a balanced diet, low in sugar and high in calcium-rich foods
- Avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol use
- Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months
- Use a nightguard if you grind your teeth at night
When you have questions about your at-home care routine, our dental team is always happy to help.

Everyone there is amazing! I can’t say enough good things about my experience with them. Thank you so much for being attentive, not talking down to me, and immediately addressing the problems I was having. I’ve had a lot of work done on my teeth over the years, and this place is hands-down the best.

Meet Dr. Joseph Willis, DMD
Hi! I am Dr. Joseph Willis. I grew up in a small town of Plymouth, Indiana (Notre Dame fan here) and moved to Oklahoma to attend college at Oral Roberts University in 2004. From there I attended University of Louisville School of Dentistry, graduating with my DMD in 2017. I worked as an associate with Heartland Dental for a little over 3 years before finding my home at Dental Arts.
I have always been passionate about dentistry since I was a small child, around 12 years old. I loved going to the dentist and watching my family get their teeth worked on or cleaned. The technology and life changing capabilities of dentistry now a days is just incredible! We have the best doctors and staff in the world! I am excited to have the opportunity of growing in with this community and taking care of everyone!
